A young teacher was stabbed by a stalker in front of a church on the New Year’s Eve in Kanyakumari district. She was engaged and was about to get married in five days.

Police identified the man as S Fegi Castro of Chinathurai (27). The 25-year-old woman was stabbed at the entrance of a church near Nithrailai on Saturday night. The woman was a post-graduate and was teaching at a private polytechnic college in Tirunelveli district.

Police told The New Indian Express that the woman had gone to church with her relatives and when she was leaving the church after the service, she was allegedly stabbed with a knife. The woman fainted and the man was beaten up by the people around.

S Fegi Castro is a fisherman and a school dropout. Sources told TNIE that the woman had also filed a complaint against the man for stalking. A police officer said that six months ago, he was called for a police inquiry and he was warned by police to stop stalking her. When he came to know about her wedding, he attacked the woman.

The woman is said to be stable and the police have filed a case against Fegi for uttering obscene words in public, attempt to murder and criminal intimidation (Sections 294(B), 307 and 506 (ii) of Indian Penal Code) and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act and arrested him.
