A trailer of the Malayalam superhero film The Gambler has been released recently by actor Dulquer Salmaan.

Dulquer wrote: “Wishing my brother Anson Paul and team all the very best for their new movie #Gambler Directed by Tom Emmatty, produced by Thankachen Emmanuel under the banner True Line Cinema. Gives me great joy to launch their lovely trailer ! Cut so well and has great feel. It looks like a great family drama with a superhero element ! Rock on guys ! (sic).”

The trailer shows how a little boy picks up an interest in playing cards from his father (Anson Paul) and how it is affecting the family. There is only a mention of how the boy sees his dad appear as a superhero in his dream. And a picture of Anson Paul in a superhero costume being flashed for a moment before the trailer ends.

The film is directed by Tom Emmatty of Oru Mexican Aparatha fame and features his little son as the son of the male lead played by Anson Paul.

When The Gambler was announced, Anson Paul was quoted by The New Indian Express as saying, “I can’t wait to start working in it. I’ve been a fan of some of the popular western superheroes since my childhood so something like this happening in Malayalam cinema is a cause for excitement. And as with all the roles I’ve done so far, I expect to do something different for this one too.”

Tom Emmatty was quoted as saying, “We are introducing a fresh character with no references to previous superheroes. We want to avoid all the stereotypes we have seen before. However, there will be a few elements to make it more relatable to Malayali audiences.” The director added that the film is being made as a family entertainer so that the entire family can enjoy and there will be some important and informative messages for the children.
