A 23-year-old youngster in Hyderabad died on Monday after falling from the HITEC city flyover, reportedly after he jumped out of a moving car in an inebriated condition.
The deceased, identified as Garugu Shobanandri Reddy, was celebrating his birthday when the incident took place.
The police said that Shobanandri and his friend consumed alcohol at the Revolt Bar at Jubilee Hills. As a drunk Shobanadri was driving rashly, his friend made him stop the car near Madhapur and called two other friends to drive them home safely.
According to media reports, as the four people were on their way in the car, Shobanadri, who was in the passenger seat, pulled the handbrake on the HITEC city flyover. He then went on to jump out of the car and climbed the flyover's railing and fell down.
The KPHB police, which registered a case of accidental death, said that no foul play was suspected by the deceased's parents.
Shobanadri’s friends also recorded their statements in front of the police and said that he was in a highly inebriated state.
Just last month, two people were killed and seven were injured after a speeding car rammed into a lorry on the Srisailam-Hyderabad highway, as a group was going to celebrate the birthday of one of their friends.
While the birthday boy survived, two of his childhood friends were killed in the crash.
In January this year, a female student of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) was killed and two of her friends were injured in a car crash near the Outer Ring Road at the city’s outskirts.
Ananya Goel, (22), hailing from Uttar Pradesh's Shamli, was on long drive with her two friends after celebrating one of their birthdays, when the accident occurred.
According to police, the car overturned near Burjugadda under Shamshabad Rural police station limits while they were on their way to Gachibowli from Pedda Amberpet.
