Dress up like Sridevi, watch Aditi Mittal live: Enjoy a true ‘Leddis Night’ in B’luru

Ladies night is definitely not a new idea – free entry, free drinks and other ‘perks’ for the ‘ladies’.

This weekend, however, get ready for a ‘Leddis Night’ like never before. If you’re a woman and in Bengaluru this weekend, The Ladies Finger, an online women’s magazine, has a treat for you.

On April 28, TLF has planned a true ladies night at The Lalit Ashok, with an all-women line-up of performers for an all-women audience, and even an all-women hotel staff, including Vanessa, a woman bouncer!

Here’s what’s in store for attendees: a headlining set by India’s comedy sensation Aditi Mittal, and comics Shrirupa Sengupta and Deepika Mhatre strengthening the rocking line-up.

Also on the cards is Deepika Arwind’s hit satire ‘No Rest In The Kingdom’, which promises to give you laugh-till-you-cry/cry-till-you-laugh insights into women’s experiences. And for the ladies who love to groove, there’s a smashing performance by Bengaluru-based all-women dance group Dhurii. The evening will be rounded up by DJ Prarthana.

What’s more? You’re encouraged to come in your favourite Sridevi avatar, and if you do it well, you’ll be recognized and awarded at the end too!

The performers also hold Sridevi in an iconic place. Shirupa Sengupta for instance, said that this evening was about “celebrating a woman who is iconic, she brought in the idea of equal pay in the industry, equal screen time, she owned the roles she played.”

Deepika Arwind said that Sridevi was emblematic of her childhood. “I just love her playfulness, it really reminded me of myself as a child. I felt weirdly empowered especially because of movies like ChaalBaaz where she was able to outsmart the bad guys and was charming and crazy and wild and bad.”

And why an all-women event, you wonder? TLF explains in a statement: “In times when women’s laughter seems to intimidate men (read: Renuka Chowdhury and her being compared to Surpanakha for laughing in Rajya Sabha), we thought why not put together a room full of women who can meet each other and laugh to their heart’s content in a space that’s exclusively theirs.”

Actor-writer Deepika Arvind added, “It feels like when women come together, we have to talk about some extremely terrible things and protest. I can’t think of when so many women got together just to have a good time. And ladies’ nights at bars are just a sham and you never feel safe or free there.”
