Does a ‘second suicide note’ debunk Gokulraj case angle in DSP Vishnupriya's suicide?

The tragic suicide of Tamil Nadu police officer DSP Vishnupriya, which is alleged by friends and family to have links with the murder of Dalit youngster Gokulraj in June, saw another twist with reports emerging that another suicide note has been found by officers of the CB-CID who are investigating the case.

Speaking to The News Minute, a top officer of the CB-CID confirmed that another suicide note, which was apparently written by Vishnupriya earlier, has also been found by investigators. However, the contents of the letter are not being revealed. The source said that the letter was written in the month of July this year.

ToI has also reported on the ‘second suicide note’. "She had attempted suicide earlier, between the months of July and September. We understand that Vishnupriya intended to kill herself since July," ToI quotes an official as stating.

Sources in the TN police department now say that this helps them prove the theory that the suicide was not linked to the Gokulraj murder case, reiterating that her suicide note on the day of the incident explicitly says that her suicide and murder have no links.

However, Vishnupriya’s family will have none of it. Speaking to The News Minute, her father M Ravi says that even if she had written a letter earlier, there must have been reasons for her to do so. “She could have written 100 letters, so what? There has to be a reason right? And it has to do with the pressure she was under,” says an angry Ravi.

It is also worth noting that by July, when the purported ‘other’ suicide note was written, the Gokulraj murder case investigation was underway. He was murdered in June.

DSP Vishnupriya was found hanging by a police constable in her official residence in Thiruchengode on September 18. There has been widespread speculation that her death was related to the sensational murder of Gokulraj.  The main accused in the murder, Yuvaraj who is the leader of a caste group, is yet to be arrested.

Meanwhile, speaking on the floor of the TN Assembly, TN CM J Jayalalithaa condoled the death of the police officer and said that there was no need for a CBI enquiry, as demanded by the parents of Vishnupriya. Following this, a DMK leader has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking directions for a CBI probe.
