Actor turned politician Vijayakant has been admitted to the Miot Hospital in Chennai. The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) has, according to The New Indian Express, claimed that his stay at the hospital is for an annual medical checkup.

Media reports suggest that this is a yearly exercise for the DMDK Chief. ToI has reported his visit to the Apollo Hospital on Greams Road for tests back in 2014 as well.

This time however, the DMDK has reportedly requested party cadre and functionaries to not visit the hospital. A statement issued by the DMDK advises supporters and party members to not be afraid and clarifies that there is no reason for concern.

The DMDK further stated that the 'Captain' will return home in a day or two.

The DMDK chief has not been too visible in the current political turmoil that Tamil Nadu is witnessing. The party itself faced a huge electoral defeat in 2016. The party had contested in 104 seats in the 15th Assembly election but failed to win even one.

The DMDK had decided to contest the polls along with the People's Welfare Front (PWA), an alliance of four parties including the CPI(M), CPI, Vaiko's MDMK and Thol Thirumavalavan's party VCK. The alliance came to be called as the Captain Vijayakant Alliance by Vaiko. The DMDK chief himself lost both his seat and deposit in Ulundurpettai where he contested from.

Meanwhile, DMK Chief M Karunanidhi has also been battling illnesses over the last four months.
