For months, rumours have been doing the rounds that filmmaker Mohan Raja best known for helming films such as Jayam Ravi's Thani Oruvan, Santosh Subramaniam and Vijay's Velaikkaran is all set to reunite with Vijay for another project. At a recent college event in Chennai, the director himself confirmed that the project is on.

However, he didn’t spill any beans on when the project might materialise. Amidst rumours that Vijay’s next outing after Thalapathy 63 will be with Mohan Raja, the director made sure to not divulge any details with respect to the film.

In a recent interaction with Behindwoods, the director opened up about his project with Vijay and on why the project is getting delayed."Thalapathy Vijay is a big fan of Thani Oruvan and Velaikkaran too. Vijay is always ready to start and has constantly been asking me about the progress and It is my mistake that the project is getting delayed because of Thani Oruvan 2 and the project will be worth the wait. From the day I spoke about the collaboration Vijay fans expectation is skyrocketed and I am sorry to Vijay sir’s fans that I am delaying the film."

Mohan Raja, on the other hand, is expected to commence work on Thani Oruvan 2, which he announced making with his brother Jayam Ravi last August on the occasion of the third anniversary of Thani Oruvan. Mohan Raja took to Twitter to announce that he and his brother are joining hands once again for the film which is slated to go on the floors later this year.

Vijay is currently shooting for Thalapathy 63 with director Atlee. The yet-untitled film sees him play a football coach to a women’s team. The film, being produced by AGS Entertainment, was officially launched last November in Chennai.

The film also stars Nayanthara, Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Yogi Babu and Vivek in crucial roles. Meanwhile, the first look poster of Vijay’s next film with Atlee is all set to be unveiled in a week’s time, on the account of the actor’s birthday.

The film has music by AR Rahman and he had in a recent interview confirmed that the film will have a sports backdrop. It’s worth mentioning that AGS Entertainment had said in a statement that the film will be a pucca mass entertainer and will deal with a genre that will be first-of-its-kind for Vijay.
