The sequel to Dhanush’s 2014 blockbuster Vela Illa Pattathari will finally release on August 11, after being pushed by a couple of weeks. Originally planned to release on July 28 to coincide with Dhanush’s birthday, the film is all set to cash in on the Independence Day long weekend.
The film has been dubbed in Telugu and Hindi but it’s not confirmed yet whether all the three versions of the film will release on August 11. On Tuesday, when Dhanush shared the release date teaser of the film, it only confirmed the release date of VIP 2 in Tamil.
Directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth, the film marks the comeback of Kajol to Kollywood after two decades. Last seen in Arvind Swami starrer Minsara Kanavu, she plays a suave, conniving businesswoman in the film, which also features Amala Paul, Vivekh and Samuthirakani. In the film, Kajol and Dhanush will face-off and this will be the biggest highlight among other things such as Dhanush’s screen presence and music.
Soundarya, best known for helming Kochadaiiyaan, had said VIP 2 chose her and not the other way around. “Actually, VIP 2 chose me. And I'm very happy it did. My first film was done using motion-capture, a new technology. Before this film came to me, I was working on Nilavakku Enmel Ennadi Kobbam (NEEK), a rom-com with newcomers. But, for some reason, that didn't take off. I strongly believe that a project has its own fate. One thing led to another. At that point, Dhanush sir was shooting for Kodi, and he had finished writing the first draft of VIP 2. So, the topic came up and I loved the script. When I spoke about it to Thanu uncle, he was more than happy, and that's how this film happened.”
