A 29-year-old model from Mumbai, who accused the Mumbai Police personnel of sexual assault and extortion has revealed her story and held API Sunil Khatpe responsible for having allegedly raped her repeatedly. The MBA graduate told The Indian Express that she had been to the Holiday Inn as she was expecting to sign a role in a movie financed by a Gujarat-based businessman. The businessman had allegedly asked her to follow him to his room; she declined and called her male friend to pick her up. She claims that when the two of them reached the hotel’s parking lot, they were surrounded by six persons claiming to be police officials who told them that it was a “raid” and accused them of prostitution. She claims that after looking at her identity card another policeman said, ‘Tere paas toh bahut paisa hoga (you would have a lot of money)’. She alleges that she tried to reason with them but instead was taken to Sangharsh Nagar beat chowky where she was allegedly raped by API Sunil Khatpe. When she was taken back to the Sakinaka Police Station, she was fined Rs 1200 for creating nuisance in a public place and added that her friend had to pay Rs 4.35 lakh before they were allowed to leave. She claims that she received no co-operation from Cooper Hospital, where she had gone for her check-up as the male doctor did not find her complaint authentic. She lodged her complaint on April 21st to the Commissioner of Police, Rakesh Maria. So far, three policemen and five informers have been arrested.  “After the Delhi gang rape, friends in the Capital said I should feel safe as I live in Mumbai. I beg to differ today. In Delhi, civilians rape women… In Mumbai, it’s the police,” she says. Read more at: Mumbai rape victim speaks: policeman said make me happy
