Telangana's ruling party, the TRS on Saturday flaunted another chip on its shoulder after welcoming a new defector - this time the TDP MLA from Kukatpally, Madhavaram Krishna Rao into the party.  Krishna Rao met Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at the latter's farm house for his induction into the pink party.  This crossover will be crucial as the TRS is hoping to defeat the TDP-BJP alliance and trying to make things sway in its favour for the upcoming MLC elections scheduled for June 1. The TRS, which has increased its strength to 75 MLAs from the original 63 MLAs in the legislative assembly has welcomed people from the TDP, Congress and the YSRCP.  Krishna Rao's latest defection from the TDP increases the number of MLAs representing the TRS to 76.  The TRS has fielded 5 candidates for the MLC polls and each candidate requires at least 18 first preference votes for a certain victory. As of now, four candidates are expected to be receiving 18 first preference votes each. Besides this, the party has four more votes remaining plus the seven votes from its unofficial ally, the MIM.  The party still needs a few more votes if it plans to get all five candidates in. This has had the party trying to indirectly encourage last minute defections with rumours that more MLAs from the TDP and the Congress are expected to defect.  The party can also rely on its second preference votes, if the first preference do not amount to 18 votes. A win in the MLC elections will also act as a boost for the GHMC elections, which is next in line and expected to be held in December.
