Days after meeting Andhra Pradesh opposition leader YSRCP Jagan Mohan Reddy, former DGP Sambasiva Rao met CM Chandrababu Naidu at Amaravati on Tuesday, triggering speculations again of his political entry.

Last week, the former police officer had made a 'courtesy call’ on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy who is on his statewide 3,000km walkathon (Praja Sankalpa Yatra), aimed at unseating Chandrababu Naidu.

Several media reports and YSRCP leaders have claimed that the ex-DGP will be joining the party soon and will become the latest top bureaucrat to be accommodated.

However, Tuesday's meeting between the former police boss and TDP supremo has only further muddied the political waters.

Following his meeting with Naidu, Sambasiva Rao told media that his meeting earlier with Jagan Mohan Reddy was a mere courtesy call.

He said "I met him because he is an opposition leader. I met opposition leaders normally even when I was CP (Commissioner of Police). Even today, I feel paying a courtesy visit is not a problem."

When asked about the media reports which speculated on his political entry, he said that happened due to a "big communication gap".

Sambasiva Rao said that he met Naidu only to discuss the development of the Duggirajapatnam port and the central government sponsored Sagaramala project, while asserting that his visit had nothing to do with politics.

Rao also said that he has no interest in 'direct politics' and felt that he has done whatever he could do, through his services for 33 years. He also wished to continue serving the people and believes that politics is not the only way to do service.

A top public relations official from Amaravati told TNM that the meeting between the former bureaucrat and the CM was “one-to-one” and nothing is known to others.

Meanwhile, TDP official spokesperson Lanka Dinakar lashed out at YSRCP for claiming that Sambasiva Rao’s courtesy visit on their leader Jagan signalled his entry into the YSRC party. He said that this is "a new level to which YSRCP and Vijayasai Reddy have stooped to.”

Vijayasai Reddy is YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP and National General Secretary of the party.

When asked again about the ex-DGP’s visit to CM Naidu, Lanka said, "The former DGP himself has stated that the visit was not political and was meant to discuss other issues. We don't do cheap politics like YSRCP.”
