Four persons including the father and relatives of a caste Hindu girl were charged on Thursday by the Umarabath police in Vellore for allegedly assaulting a Dalit man,  after he dropped a girl at her house on a two-wheeler, reported The New Indian Express.

The victim, P Rajasekar, (25), who hails from Othiyathur village was reported to be in an affair with Hemamalini, (22), a caste Hindu, from Chinnamalaiyampattu of Umarabath.

On Thursday, Rajasekar met Hemamalini when her college bus had developed a snag on its way to Umarabath, following which he dropped her home.

When the girl’s father saw them together, he became furious and had an argument with Rajasekar.

Rajasekar reportedly told him the father that he was in a relationship with his daughter. Agitated by it, the girl’s father and relatives dragged him to their garden, tied him to a tree and started beating him with logs and sticks.

Sources told TNIE that he was assaulted for more than four hours.

Philip Kennedy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ambur said that the four people had absconded after the incident.
