As the Opposition in Kerala vociferously demands the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy over allegations of corruption in the Solar Scam, a new social media trend is bound to make the current UDF government uneasy.

Some social media users have changed their profile pictures to ones in which their faces have been hidden with a piece of cloth, symbolizing their shame at Chandy's brazenness in holding on to the chair. #KeralaCMMUstgo also trended on Twitter. A majority of these are however BJP supporters in the state.

“I changed my profile pic. An average Malayali will be going out like this today. How about we all do this? Saying they don't have any shame,” said Jayasree Nair who changed her profile picture.

“Kerala government proved to be corrupt to the fullest extent including women, wealth and wine issues and in order to show how ashamed we are of this government as a Keralite, I am covering my face and request you all to join,” said another user.

To make things worse for the government, an RSP MLA has also voiced concern over the government’s credibility and offered his resignation on Thursday. RSP is an ally of the Congress in the UDF government.

On Thursday, the Thrissur Vigilance Court had asked the police to treat a petition filed by social activist PD Joseph in the Solar Scam case, as an FIR against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Power Minister Aryadan Muhammed.

The state witnessed violent protests by Left supporters on Thursday and Friday in the state capital and elsewhere, where the police had to resort to lathicharge and tear gas to control the crowd.
