Karibasavaiah (39), a head constable at Parappana Agrahara police station has been arrested for his alleged involvement in helping a group run a prostitution racket in Bangalore. The racket, which was operating from a rented bungalow in BTM layout, was raided on April 17, where the police seized huge sums of money and arrested five people and rescued three women.
Karibasavaiah has been allegedly helping in running the racket for the past three years. “In this case, he had helped them find the house and had also assured them that the police will not raid the house,” said a senior police officer to The Hindu.
Karibasavaiah's phone call records revealed that he was in regular contact with the suspects and his bank account showed regular remittance by the suspects. He had also helped by sharing alerts about possible raids and received money in return. He has been booked under sections of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The clients were charged with Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 for each transaction and most of them were done online. The money was collected from the clients by swiping their credit and debit cards using Point of Sale (PoS) terminals.
One of the main accused, Usman used to bring women from Mumbai by flight and the details of the women were uploaded on websites to attract customers. They used to circulate the women's pictures through Whatsapp for the regular customers. A posh villa had been rented for the business and the landlord was told that government officials, company executives and businessmen will be visiting the house for business purposes.
Usman had been arrested earlier for running prostitution rackets in the city and his connection with Karibasavaiah is under investigation.
