The News Minute | April 4, 2015 | 11.54 am ISTP V Abdul Wahab was named the Rajya Sabha candidate from Kerala for the Indian National Muslim League. His name was announced by party state chief Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal on Saturday morning. Wahab was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2004 to 2010.League Minister P K Kunhalikutty told media that the decision was taken after proper procedures and discussions.Earlier reports had suggested that there was tussle within the party regarding the candidature. Reports say that most of the district secretaries demanded that party state secretary K.P.A Majeed should be chosen as candidate. But apparently party’s national President E Ahmed wanted Wahab as the candidate. There were also criticism that Wahab being one of the richest persons in Kerala, was not a suitable candidate for public service. Former party chief Muhammadali Shihad Thangal’s son Munavarali Shihab Thangal had criticized party’s move to select Wahab on this context. In his recent Facebook post, Munavarali had alleged that the party had to sacrifice a lot last time when Wahab was given the Rajya Sabha seat and his father was sad about that. However, after the declaration of the candidate name, Munavarali has clarified that he is happy with Thangal’s decision and all the misunderstandings have been solved.“There is no dispute in the party in connection with the candidature,” Kunjalikutty told media“I will move forward correcting my mistakes and being a rich person is not a crime,” Wahab told media. “I reached this position after much hard work. The Rajya Sabha seat obtained now is a recognition for working honestly for the party. The mistakes pointed out will be seen positively,” he added.
