A protest march to the Kerala Secretariat by the Youth Congress and BJP’s Yuva Morcha workers on Thursday, became violent.

The tension began when the groups started raising slogans against each other. The workers of both the political outfits threw stones at each other and there was mild scuffle between the workers.

The protest march was organised to the Secretariat, the administrative headquarters of the state, on the day the government is celebrating its first anniversary. The protest was to condemn the last one year of LDF's rule, calling it a failure.

The police had allowed separate spaces for both groups, to avoid any untoward incident. The tension began when Yuva Morcha workers alleged that Youth Congress people occupied the space allotted for them.

Scores of workers of both the Yuva Morcha and Youth Congress from various parts of the state had gathered for the protest. The workers had arrived in the capital on Wednesday evening. They had blocked the Secretariat from Wednesday evening preventing employees from entering the compound.

According to reports both the parties had decided to protest in front of the Secretariat gate which is known as 'samara gate' (where normally all kinds of protests take place). Large number of police were deployed on the spot. The protest in effect became a full-fledged fight between the groups.

Both the groups destroyed flexes and posters of the other side. They also threw stones at each other and into the Secretariat.
