Complaint against Pawan Kalyan for 'insulting' SC judgement on National Anthem

A Hyderabad-based advocate has lodged a complaint at the Saroornagar police station against actor and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan for “insulting” the Supreme Court’s decision on the National Anthem.

The complaint comes following Pawan Kalyan’s tweets criticising the Supreme Court's recent judgements making it compulsory to play national anthem before every show in theatres.

According to reports, the lawyer, S Rajender Goud, alleged that the actor had disrespected the nation and the apex court.

Speaking to TNM, a police officer at the Saroornagar police station confirmed that the complaint was registered.

"We have sent it for a legal opinion. We will get a response in two to three days, and decide whether to register a case or not," he said.

Earlier this week, Pawan took to Twitter to criticise the BJP and the recent SC ruling for their 'forced patriotism'.

"A simple evening to spend time with family and friends to watch a movie has been made into a testing ground to prove one's patriotism. Why not political parties start their meetings with national anthem, why only cinemas? Why not the highest offices in the country? Those who preach and enforce laws - why don't they lead us by example?? So they are 'sign posts'??" (sic), he wrote.

Pawan, who had campaigned for the BJP-TDP alliance in the 2014 elections, also came down harshly on the Central government over the issues of beef bans and the suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohit Vemula.

The actor had floated the Jana Sena Party on the eve of the 2014 elections, but did not contest the polls and campaigned for the BJP-TDP alliance instead.

However , he fell out with BJP after the latter failed to fulfill the poll promise of according special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
