‘10-124-21’ or ‘10-28-23,’ do you understand it? No, then here it is. CPI(M) party members in Edappadi constituency allege that the sitting MLA and AIADMK candidate K. Palanisamy and his supporters are marking houses in the area to distribute money.

“These numbers were noticed in many houses in the area when we went for campaigning on May 11. In these three-digit numbers, the first number is the area number in the voters list, second is the serial number and third is the number of votes they have attained,” said N Praveen Kumari, District Secretary of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI).  “For every vote, the AIADMK is giving Rs 300 to Rs 1000,” he alleges.

The CPI(M) candidate P. Thangavelu has filed a police complaint at the Jalakandapuram police station and has also informed the Election Commission about the cash distribution. “No action was taken against the AIADMK members till May 11 afternoon,” said Praveen.

Following a protest by 150 CPI(M) members at Jalakandapuram, two AIADMK members were arrested by the police.

A complaint was filed by Village Administrative Officer against CPI (M) candidate Thangavelu and 50 other CPI(M) members for protesting without prior permission.
