According to WSJ, Star Wars is an unfamiliar force in China as ‘when Luke Skywalker first appeared on U.S. movie screens in 1977, China had just emerged from the Cultural Revolution—which had suppressed art as entertainment’.
So for the Chinese and just about everyone who is clueless about Star Wars, Stephen Colbert simplified the plot for his ‘Late Show’ audience.
