Justice delayed is justice denied. To prevent delay in rendering social justice, the Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu on Wednesday announced the formation of a special bench in the Supreme Court to deal with social issues.

“The Constitution of India in its Preamble has assured the people a three dimensional justice including social justice… In Supreme Court several cases relating to the domain of 'social justice’ are pending for several years,” the apex court notification read.

Issues like release of surplus grains, frame schemes for PDS, night-shelter to the homeless, medical and health facilities, etc. will be dealt by this bench.

To give a ‘specialized approach for their early disposal’ the CJI decided to constitute a special bench which would start functioning from December 12. The bench comprising of Justice Madan Lokur and Justice U.U. Lalit will sit every working Friday at 2 PM. The bench will also hear pending matters.
