Have you ever chanced upon policemen watching late night movies at theatres on duty accompanied by handcuffed petty crime accused? This happens to be a regular occurance in Villupuram. Within the span of one week, three accused persons accompanied policemen for night show movies, even during the night patrol, reported  The New Indian Express.A senior police officer went on to clarify that this was not an encouraged practice and that they had not permitted their junior officers to take the accused out on movies at nights. This doubly applied if they were in handcuffs and in government vehicles. They assured that if these charges are proved, strict action would be taken against the concerned personnel.According to Jagan (name changed) a local resident who vsisited a theatre to watch Jyothika’s latest movie "36 Vayadhinile" along with his family on Saturday night when he spotted three policemen in plainclothes and an inspecter in uniform along with a handcuffed youth, said the report. They were searching for seats in the dark of the theatre with the help of a theatre employee. This sight caused a flutter amongst the audience which eventually caused utter silence in the theatre, discouraging viewers from applauding during their favourite scenes of the movie. It was allegedly evident from the policemen’s behaviour and attitude that they were watching the movie for free. The theatre management said that they don’t usually bother buying tickets and even demand free snacks in a gross misuse of their power.
