In a tragic incident, an eight-year-old girl from Chennai drowned in front of her father and trainer during a summer camp in Mogappair East on Saturday morning.

The JJ Nagar police told The News Minute that the eight-year-old, identified as Andrea, was rushed to a private hospital after she drowned, but was declared dead on arrival.

The parents have not filed any complaint against the trainer. A case has been registered under CrPc 174 (suspicious death).

The deceased was a Class III student of a school in Nolambur and was swimming in a pool that was 5-feet-deep at VV Swimming Pool Academy.

The relatives of the child alleged that no proper first aid treatment was provided to the girl, The New Indian Express reported.

The girl’s uncle alleged that if the girl was provided proper first aid in the initial few minutes, they would have been able to save Andrea.

The Times of India reported that her post-mortem report said that she died after water got into her lungs. Her parents told the doctors that she did not have any pre-existing medical condition.

The TOI report adds that she was at the edge of the pool, when she reportedly lost control. Her father and her coach immediately pulled her out and rushed her to a private hospital.

Andrea had joined the classes about 11 days ago after she showed interest in swimming.

Andrea’s father works as an associate director in the film industry and her mother works in an IT company.
