On Wednesday evening, a mother and daughter were found murdered in their apartment in Saidapet with severe stab injuries on their neck and chest.

The Times of India reports that no valuables were missing from the house and the jewellery they wore was intact.

Police suspect that they were murdered for some domestic issue.

The deceased are Hemalatha Shanmugam, who used to work as a stenographer at Anna University and her daughter Jayalakshmi Shamnugam, a 22-year-old final year student of Meenakshi Engineering College in KK Nagar. Hemalatha’s husband had died last year in a road accident.

They were found murdered by their neighbour around 7:15pm when she went to meet her. She went and knocked on the door and when no one answered, she peeped through the window and found Hemalatha and her daughter lying in a pool of blood, reported The New Indian Express.

ToI reported that Hemalatha’s younger sister Yasoda, kept trying to contact her but she did not respond. So, she rushed to her house to find Hemalatha and her daughter dead.

Hemalatha’s body was found in the hall and her daughter’s body was found in the bedroom.

Police said they also found a bloodstained knife in the bathroom.

Hemalatha’s son Balamurgan, a mechanical engineer at a private company in Shollinganallur is missing, police told ToI.

Police suspect that the twin murder was committed by someone close to the family, as there were no signs of a forced entry into the flat.
