There is a threat of major waterlogging looming over the low-lying areas in Chennai as the authorities are set to discharge 5000 cusecs of water from the Chembarambakkam lake, according to the skymetweather.com.

Chembarambakkam lake is the largest lake outside the city and the discharge of water might inundate parts of the city.

The intensity of the rainfall has reduced in Chennai for the past few days but the authorities have warned about the reservoir water flowing towards the low-lying regions.

There will be on and off rains in the city on November 21. Heavy rains are expected to be showered on the city on November 22 and November 23, according to skymetweather.com.

About 70,000 people have been living in the shelter camps. Many areas in the city still are under floods.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Navy and Air Force are carrying out rescue operations from Tuesday and distributing food and water packets to stranded people.
