Two weeks after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the probe related to the illegal single-digit lottery scam would be handed over the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI); the Union Home Ministry is yet to respond to the state’s request.According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, the state government has already written to the ministry seeking CBI investigation into the scam in which several senior police officials are said to be involved.Sources told the paper that it was left to the CBI to express if it is interested in probing the scam. “In fact, state governments cannot pressure the CBI to take up any particular case on priority, as the investigating agency has the prerogative to reject or accept the proposal. We have to wait till we get a reply from the CBI,” a source was quoted as saying by the paper. The government suspended IPS officer Alok Kumar after he was named in the preliminary report submitted by the CID to the state government.Home Minister K J George said that the CID will continue investigating the case until CBI takes over.
