The exhumation of bodies of the two Badaun victims has run into trouble after the CBI had to seek assistance from the local administration after it could not locate the bodies several hours of digging.

According to a PTI report, the CBI had begun the exhumation of bodies on Saturday but despite digging the spot where the bodies had been buried for several hours, they could not locate the bodies.

According to a report published by The Times of India, the CBI had decided to conduct the second autopsy of the two victims’ bodies after it found the first autopsy reports inconclusive about several aspects of their rapes and subsequent deaths.

The two minor cousins had been raped and killed in Uttar Pradesh in the end of May, sparking outrage across the country. The Times of India reported that the CBI had made arrangements to conduct the second autopsy at the banks of river. The bodies have been buried just three metres away from the banks of the Ganga.

The CBI had to hurry with the exhumation as the level of water in the Ganga has been rising steadily in the last few days owing to heavy rains.
