Six students of Ernakulam Maharaja’s college, including activists of the SFI, were expelled in connection with the burning of the principal’s chair in January this year.

The students who face action included Aswin P Dinesh, who is chairman of the college students’ union. The others students who are facing action are Vishnu Suresh, Harikrishnan, K Babu, Prajith, Muhammed Ameer and K F Afiridi, according to Times of India. Muhammed Ameer is SFI’s college unit president.

A three-member enquiry commission was reportedly constituted to look into the issue which found all six students guilty in the case.

The college council took the decision in a meeting held on Friday. The meeting was attended by various heads of departments. Times of India reports that the college hasn't year issued the dismissal order, but would issue one soon.

Principal N L Beena's chair was set ablaze in protest against her alleged remarks against girl students, which had provoked the students which finally ended up in burning the chair of the principal.

On Wednesday weapons including machetes, wooden sticks and iron rods were seized from the college hostel room in a raid conducted by the police. Students alleged ‘drama’ in the raid as the weapons were seized from the room which was that of staff quarters, and converted as hostel room when the students hostel was found unfit for stay.
