After the beef-raid controversy in Delhi, the canteen at Kerala House in Delhi started serving buffalo-meat dishes again on Wednesday. With a large crowd rushing in, the dishes were sold out in just 45 minutes.

Though earlier in the menu the meat dishes were named as ‘beef’ now the management has renamed the dishes as meat fry and curry with “buffalo” in brackets.

According to The Hindu the prominent customers who had lunch at the canteen were M.A. Baby, Nilotpal Basu and Ritabrata Banerjee, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders, and V. Sivadasan, president, Students Federation of India.

Meanwhile Vishnu Gupta, the Hindu Sena worker who gave the complaint to the police saying cow meat was served in the house, has been arrested under Section 107/151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure .

The Hindu further reports that in the report to the Union Ministry by Delhi Police Commissioner, the police have said that the menu was neither displayed nor shared with the police by the canteen staff upon their visit. “The canteen staff said the menu is prepared on a daily basis, and no copy is available with them. During the conversation, a staff member of the canteen was briefed to remain alert and inform the police in case of any issue or vandalism. Thereafter, the SHO [Station House Officer], Parliament Street, along with PCR [police control room] staff, took position at the gate so that no untoward incident took place” the police said in the report.
