The Andhra Pradesh government is planning to launch a new insurance scheme from August 1 to benefit 1.5 crore labourers from the unorganised sector.

According to Deputy Labour Commissioner Suryanarayana, the state government would launch the 'Chandranna Insurance Scheme' on August 1 for the benefit of agricultural labourers, artisans, small self-employed people, petty traders, vendors, hamals and shop employees and other kinds of labourers from the unorganised sector.

Every worker has to register his name by paying Rs 15 in the labour department to avail the scheme benefits, he told reporters here.

He said in case of accidental death or total disability in the accident, the kin of the insurer would get Rs 5 lakh as compensation.

In the case of partial disability in the accident, the insurer would be paid Rs 3,62,500. The insurer's kin would be paid Rs 30,000 in the case of his natural death.

In addition to the above compensation, two children of the insurer will be provided scholarships at Rs 1200 per annum if they are studying between Class IX to XII.

The official said that the state government would pay Rs 132 crore as premium on behalf of the insurers to the identified Insurance company.

He said the state government launched the accidental insurance scheme for transport drivers in the month of May last year by paying Rs 6.5 crore.

He said that under that scheme about 581 transport drivers families' were benefited with the accidental death policy.
