The Telangana unit of the Congress lashed out at state IT Minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday, strongly condemning his comments that Congress was a ‘loafer party’.

Addressing reporters, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Spokesperson Dr Sravan Dasoju demanded that KTR should be booked under Section 506 and 507 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), that deal with criminal intimidation.

Addressing a press conference at party headquarters Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday, Sravan reminded KTR that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao himself had started his political career from the Congress party.

Pointing out that several top TRS leaders along with KCR were once part of the Congress, Sravan asked KTR if he considers them ‘loafers’ too.

Sravan said that KTR was not eligible to speak on political morality, as his party chief had made several promises like making a Dalit, the Chief Minister of Telangana, and providing free education from KG to PG. However, he said that not a single promise had been fulfilled.

The Congress leader alleged that KCR had inducted traitors of the Telangana movement into his cabinet, while his government arrested those who made sacrifices for the cause of separate statehood.

Sravan also alleged that the TRS had entered into a secret alliance with the BJP. He said that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ‘spitting venom’ against Telangana in the Parliament, TRS MPs remained silent.

The Congress leader said that it was strange for KTR to be attacking the party which granted Telangana, while staying silent when PM Modi ridiculed the formation of the state, and denied budgetary allocations that were requested.

“KTR should focus on fighting with the BJP at the Centre to get additional funds and implement assurances made in the AP Reorganisation Act, rather than indulging in 'vulgar politics' like this,” Sravan said.
