The bomb squad was called in to a spot near Sankey Tank in Bengaluru on Friday after a suspicious object was found. An alert was sounded by the police following the bomb scare, but the police have now said that no explosives were found.

On Friday morning, around 9 30AM,  a suspicious bag was found under a transformer near Cauvery Theater Circle in the city. After a thorough search the police declared that no explosives were found ion the site.

NS Megharikh, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru told the media, “No explosives were found, we just found liquor bottles inside the box. There is no reason to be scared.” Police officials said that an alert was sounded as the bag did not look ordinanry.

Bomb squad was sent immediately and the area was cordoned off after locals in the area alerted the police. The area is usually busy on account of Sankranthi, the area was less congested. The area is also residence of various VIPs.

Police officials on the ground told The News Minute it could have been an attempt to make a bomb as a plastic bag with some powder, a box with something written in chinese on it, wire strands and some liquid which possibly could be acid were also found in the bag.

Other prominent areas pf the city are also being searched and high alert has been issued.

A low intensity explosion occurred in Church Street area of the city in December 2014 which claimed the life of a woman.

With just 10 days to go for Republic Day, a national level security assessment was done today with meeting chaired by the Home Minister. The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other top officials today to review the security situation in the country as Delhi and many other places continue to be on high alert following Pathankot terror attack.
