#BlameOneNotAll campaign says not to blame 'all' men for rape, receives major backlash

Mintified, an Indian website that curates and creates viral content, has launched a new campaign called #BlameOneNotAll to highlight how all men are not responsible for offenses against women, but reaction to it has not been all positive. The objective of the campaign is that how women should not blame “all” men for the crimes, such as sexual assault, that they are subjected to.The message on their Facebook page reads, “We do agree that a woman has to go through a lot. The leering, the catcalls, the groping, the societal othering, the miasma of all this that women bear the brunt of every damn day. Every single day is a war to them. BUT generalizing the other gender, is not right. Not all men are rapists. Not all men abuse their significant others. Not all men actively oppress women. And these posters say it all.‪#‎BlameOneNotAll” Posted by Mintified on Monday, 25 May 2015 Posted by Mintified on Monday, 25 May 2015The campaign has received mixed responses from the society with some appreciating it while others argue that it sends out a wrong message. Some have condemned it saying that the campaign sends out a dangerous message that men who do not rape or assault women, need to be appreciated and must be thanked for not causing them harm. One of the respondents on Facebook, Nayantara Umashankar, “Wow!! Why are we applauding men for NOT assaulting women when it's literally human decency???” Others on Twitter expressed their dismay over the message Mintified has tried to give out in their campaign. If a man doesn't assault/harm/rape one woman that means he's "good" & "safe"? Abusers pick + choose who they want to hurt. #BlameOneNotAll — Lauren Chief Elk (@ChiefElk) May 27, 2015The most dangerous message imbedded in #BlameOneNotAll is if one man doesn't rape/assault/harass one woman then he's "safe" to others. NOPE.— Dr. Hibbs (@reallyHibbs) May 27, 2015Folks who think they deserve praise for not murdering & raping women make me worry about how much effort it is for them. #BlameOneNotAll— May Malaise (@dyrbert) May 27, 2015YOU DO NOT GET COOKIES FOR NOT RAPING SOMEONE. #BlameOneNotAll— Lyndsay Kirkham (@Lyndsay_Kirkham) May 27, 2015I hereby demand cookies and medals for not doing something I am not bloody supposed to do in the first place #BlameOneNotAll— Adrian Bott (@Cavalorn) May 27, 2015
