BlackBerry’s plans to launch its next smartphone after KEYone has been doing the rounds for some time and sure enough, TCL, the Chinese manufacturer contracted to make all BlackBerry phones has announced the launch of the next phone to be called Motion. The announcement came at the Gulf Information Technology Expo (GITEX) in Dubai.

The BlackBerry Motion sports a 5.5-inch LCD HD display with a 1080pixels resolution and the front of the phone incorporates the fingerprint sensor within the Home button. The earlier assumptions were that the phone would be called Krypton. There is no physical keyboard on this BlackBerry phone which comes as a surprise to many.

The processor fitted on the new BlackBerry Motion smartphone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. The chipset clocks a very decent speed of 2GHz and is supported by 4GB RAM which should stand it in good stead when it comes to performance. The internal storage would be 32GB. The other major feature is the battery which is 4000mAh and is expected to last a whole of 24 hours with mixed usage. The phone is said to be provided with the fast charging facility as well.

The OS is Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box and one can expect that the upgrade to Oreo will soon come to the smartphone.

When it comes to the cameras, the BlackBerry Motion has a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. TCL has also gone about obtaining the IP67 certification for this new BlackBerry, probably the first one in this brand to have that distinction. The phone can stay in the water up to a depth of 3.3meters for about 30 minutes without suffering any kind of damages.

One of the innovative features introduced in the BlackBerry Motion phone is called the Convenience Key; in this the user can access four frequently used options; Home, Office, Car and User.

BlackBerry Motion will be made available only in the Gulf and Middle East countries first before being sold elsewhere and there is no clarity yet on when the other markets will get to see the device. For the Middle Eastern market, the price announced is $460 (approx. Rs. 30, 000)
