BJP files police complaint against Balakrishna for derogatory comments against PM

BJP also approached the Andhra Governor seeking Balakrishna’s dismissal from the post of MLA.

BJP MLC and Hyderabad president N Ramachander Rao on Saturday filed a police complaint against actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna for his derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the gathering at the Dharma Porata Dheeksha in Vijayawada on Friday, the actor, who is an MLA from Hindupur, made offensive remarks, calling the Prime Minister Shikandi (eunuch) and Kojja (Hijra). The actor slammed the PM Modi for not according Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh and claimed that the BJP will not win even one seat from the state in the upcoming general elections.

Taking offence to the remarks, Ramachander Rao filed a complaint against Balakrishna at Osmania University (OU) police station on Saturday. The city president in his complaint sought legal action for the abusive language used by Balakrishna, for hurting ‘sentiments’ of the people and inciting people against the government.

Speaking to TNM, OU Inspector, G Jagan said that they have received a complaint, but are yet to file a case. “We received the petition, after verifying the video clippings, we will file a case,” he said.

Besides, a police complaint, the AP BJP MLA Vishnu Kumar, MLC PVN Madhav along with few leaders also met the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan on Saturday and submitted a memorandum asking him to dismiss Balakrishna from the post.

Speaking to TNM, MLC Madhav said that besides dismissing the actor from his MLA post, the Chief Minister should also arrest him for making derogatory remarks while holding a public office.

“Balakrishna said that the Prime Minister should be thrashed. What sort of language is this? This is the first time someone is making such statements against the head of the country.”

Madhav also accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of being equally culpable. “The Chief Minister, who was on the dais did not intervene immediately and restrain him making derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister,” he pointed out.

Slamming Naidu for using the state exchequer for the protest, he said, “The protest should have been conducted by the party, not the government. The government nearly spent Rs 30 crores for this protest. Isn’t it abuse of power and wasting public funds?”

“To ensure that they draw enough crowd, they gave half a day leave to the government offices, schools etc. This was an organized protest. And also the state machinery was used for it. So it is abuse of power,” Madhav said.

The Dharma Porata Dheeksha was a hunger strike carried out on Friday by Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu against the Centre over Special Category Status (SCS). The fast began at 7 am and concluded at 7pm.
