The Jana Sena Party on Wednesday issued a clarification that their party president, Pawan Kalyan was not aware of a war ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, but he predicted it since he was following international politics.

Addressing a gathering on Tuesday at Allagadda, Kurnool, Pawan Kalyan had said, “Today, there is a war-like situation along the borders. I was told two years ago that there would be a war ahead of the general elections. Now, you can understand what kind of a situation we are in.” This statement was widely reported as BJP, Pawan Kalyan's former ally, having disclosed to Pawan about their war plan against Pakistan ahead of the elections.

The statement snowballed into a major controversy as critics of the BJP including Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu used it to attack the BJP for their 'ulterior motive' of going to war in a bid to win the elections.

Condemning the news, Pawan issued a statement to the media and said, "No one told me about a possible warlike situation before elections. Many who follow prominent political analysts and news channels know this and I was just mentioning them."

Pawan Kalyan had campaigned for the BJP-TDP alliance in 2014. However, he later snapped his ties with the two parties, after the BJP-led Centre denied Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

Pawan Kalyan had earlier announced that he will contest alone in the upcoming state elections in all the 175 seats.  However, he is in talks with the Left parties for an alliance, though the seat sharing hasn't been discussed. Party sources confirmed that Pawan's Jana Sena and the CPI (M) and CPI will contest in the elections as an alliance.

Meanwhile on Friday, Pawan Kalyan expressed his happiness over the release of IAF wing commander Abhinandan by Pakistan. He said that Abhinandan’s courage even while being held hostage was truly inspiring.
