Bichagadu is becoming the most profitable dubbed film ever

Actor-composer Vijay Antony’s Pichaikkaran, which has been dubbed and released in Telugu as Bichagadu, is giving Telugu films a run for their money. Having successfully completed five weeks in Andhra and Telangana, the film has raked in a whopping Rs 13 crore on a meagre investment of just Rs 50 lakh.

Released alongside Mahesh Babu’s Brahmotsavam in 50 screens, the film today is running in nearly 200 screens across both the states. According to trade pundits, the phenomenal success of the film makes it the most profitable dubbed film ever. 

A story about a millionaire who decides to give up his affluent life and turns to begging to save his ailing mother has struck a chord with the masses. While the Tamil version was a hit too, nobody including Vijay Anthony expected the film to do so well in Telugu. In a recent interview to The Hindu, he said he’s yet to accept the fact that Bichagadu has earned more than the original. Even films of stars such as Vijay, Ajith and Suriya haven’t done as well as Bichagadu in the recent past.

Vijay Antony has also said that he will focus on selecting scripts from new Telugu directors besides shooting 50 per cent of his films in Hyderabad and employing a mix of Telugu and Tamil-speaking actors.
