On a Saturday morning, 15-year-old Jabbi Khan went with his younger brother to Akkayamma Betta in Bengaluru's Uttarahalli for a picnic. Little did he know that he would be beaten for coming in the way of a group of young people clicking selfies. According to the Chikkajala Police, Jabbi Khan and his younger brother, residents of Thanisandra, went to Akkayamma Betta near the Kempegowda International Airport for a picnic on December 1.

"Two people were clicking a selfie on the hillock when Jabbi Khan accidentally appeared in the frame. The two were accompanied by four other friends. When they saw Jabbi appear in the selfie frame, they told him to step away. Since they were on top of the hillock, Jabbi was trying to move away slowly. However, the two people clicking the selfie began verbally abusing him,” the Chikkajala Police said.

When the four others saw the duo abusing Jabbi, they, too, allegedly began verbally abusing him. “They then beat him up. Jabbi lost a tooth and his face has suffered bruises. The group also took away Jabbi’s mobile phone," the police said.

After the group left, Jabbi's younger brother immediately called their father Mubarak, who rushed to the spot and took Jabbi to a hospital in Thanisandra. Jabbi is currently undergoing treatment.

The Chikkajala police said they have managed to trace the attackers. “There were five boys and one girl. They are minors and we have summoned them along with their parents for an enquiry.,” the police added.

The Chikkajala police had registered a case of assault and criminal intimidation against the six unidentified people, on December 1. “We questioned the suspects but since they are minors, we may just warn them, record their statements and arrive at a compromise with Jabbi's father,” the police added.
