The News Minute | November 22, 2014 | 6.40 pm ISTA week ahead of the scheduled Kiss of Love event in Bengaluru, the city’s police are still undecided on giving permission. The proposed location for the event is M G Road, a well-known shopping area in the heart of the city. Commissioner of Police M N Reddi has said that they have not yet decided on whether to give permission or not. Organizers of the event meanwhile, have put up a post on Facebook protesting against the “organized attempt to misrepresent the motive of Kiss of Love campaign” which was “fast gaining momentum”. Read: 'Pramod Muthalik, I will give you a hug and a kiss as a brother', says activistStating that they wanted to “make their stand clear”, the organizers say that the event is not restricted to lovers and couples. The press release on their Facebook page says: “With this symbolic gesture we would like to send a strong message to social elements who indulge in moral fascism and moral policing.”They said that the voices who were criticising the event were “not mainstream, and they don't really represent the population of India. Therefore we urge you, parents, brothers and sisters, couples, and everybody to come out along with your loved ones and join us and express your love in public places.”They also said that the protest was needed to “open up spaces in the rigid Indian society to make it tolerant towards expression of love in public spaces, be it between siblings, or parents with children”.As an answer to everyone who said that kissing was not a part of Indian culture, the organisers said: “Our literature and poetry has celebrated the expression of love. One of the earliest recorded instance of a kiss is in the epic Mahabharatha (where Rishyashrina kisses Vaishali). In fact some anthropologists beleive that kissing originated in India and it got passed on to the rest of the world, when Alexander came here with his army.”
