A Tempo-Traveller driver and cleaner have been arrested by the Bengaluru police for the gang rape of a 22-year-old female BPO employee. Yogesh (27) and Sunil (23) were arrested by the police on Tuesday, three days after the incident.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner,  N S Megharikh told the media that though the woman was disoriented after the incident, she gave three digits of the Tempo-Traveller's registration number. He said, "The team was very fast in tracking down the Tempo-Traveller. I congratulate them."

They would probe into the BPO company whether they went light on providing on cab facilities for the 22-year old female employee.

The two accused are from Kadur, Chikkamagaluru district. The Tempo-Traveller driver has been working as a driver for three years

There have been no criminal antecedents as far as the police know at this point.

The BPO employee was raped by two men on a Tempo-Traveller on Saturday night. She was picked up by the men on the pretext of dropping her at her intended destination. The alleged victim is known to be a native of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh and was staying at a PG accommodation in the city.

The police have also seized a Tempo Traveller in which the rape took place. The van has been taken to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Madiwala, Bengaluru for further tests.

The Tempo Traveller seized by the police

DCP Rohini Katoch-Sepat told The News Minute that they have definite suspects.

According to the police, the three accused on the Tempo Traveller approached the victim offering her to drop her home when she was standing alone waiting for a drop back home. The men on board apparently told her that they are going the same way and took her on board. After she boarded the vehicle, one of the accused threatened her with a knife and took her towards Domlur. They then went through Silk Board Junction, St Johns Hospital Road and other areas and then found an isolated area near Domlur and raped her. Later, they brought her to same place near Ayyappa Temple, dropped her and fled from the scene. The miscreants also threatened the victim that they will eliminate her if she complained to the police about the incident.

According to Bangalore Mirror, on the day of the incident she walked to Hosur main road around 9:30 pm and was waiting for a BMTC bus to return home. However, she did not get a bus even after waiting for half-an-hour. This is when the Tempo Traveller pulled up in front of her, and asked her whether she needed a drop.

When they neared her destination, the driver did not stop the bus stating it was a one-way and that they would take a U-turn and return to her destination. Since the girl was unfamiliar with the routes, she did not suspect any foul play. It is then that the man standing in front of the footboard allegedly started shutting all the windows and threatened to throw her of the vehicle if she shouted. The men later raped her for nearly three hours, adds the report.

Police have collected CCTV footage from major traffic junctions in the area to trace the vehicle and the accused duo.

The men allegedly warned the woman that if she complained to the police, she would be killed. They also snatched her mobile phone, removed the sim card, and returned the device.
