Bengaluru police arrested Prahlad Kailash Chowdhary, the suspect in the botched robbery at Samrat Jewels in the city on August 21.

Prahlad was arrested from his Pune residence on Sunday. He is the prime suspect in the case related to the attempted robbery at Samrat Jewellers located on Palace Guttahalli Main Road in Vyalikaval. He is accused of planning the heist and training four associates for it, reported Deccan Herald.

“As per Prahlad’s plan, gang members stole two bikes to commit the crime. He was not part of the team that struck Samrat Jewels and he fled to Pune after learning that his associates had failed to execute the plan. A probe is on to know whether Prahlad is behind any other robberies reported in Bengaluru or other places," a police official told Times of India.

Vyalikaval police had earlier arrested Balvan Singh, 24, Balaji Gaikwad, 25, Sriram Bishnoi, 23 and Om Prakash, 22, hours after the attempted robbery. After interrogating the suspects, police were led to Prahlad who allegedly formed the gang, took a house on rent and spent money to ensure their daily needs and provide logistical support for the plan.

The accused arrived at the store around 2:30 pm on August 21. They demanded the owner Ashish to hand over a particular design of gold chains. One of the accused fired a shot with a pistol to threaten the owner and his wife Rakhi who were present at the store. However, Rakhi hurled a chair at the gunmen and Ashish screamed for help forcing the robbers to flee.
