Just a couple of hours after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the government would take a call on KJ George’s resignation, the Bengaluru Minister quit from the Cabinet.

George’s move came a few hours after a Madikeri court ordered that an FIR be filed against him and the two IPS officers named by deceased DySP Ganapathy.

Just an hour before this, Siddaramaiah had hinted that they would not appeal the order of the lower court with the Karnataka High Court. He had said in the Legislative Council that the government would take a call on George’s resignation only after they received a copy of the order by the Madikeri JMFC court.

The Madikeri court gave the order on a private complaint filed by Ganapathy’s son Nehal.

In an interview that Ganapthy gave a few hours before he committed suicide, Ganapathy blamed George, and two IPS officers Pronab Mohanty and AM Prasad for harassing him.

For almost a week, the Opposition has protested against George and the two senior IPS officers and demanded the former home minister’s resignation, and the suspension of the IPS officers. In several parts of the state too, there were protests over Ganapathy’s suicide.
