A 42-year-old man who was arrested by Bengaluru police on Saturday, died in custody under mysterious circumstances.
 
Mahendra, who hails from Odisha, was working in Tippasandra area in Bengaluru. His employer Purohit filed a complaint against Mahendra for theft, at Jeevanbhima Nagar police station on Saturday. 
 
According to N.Satheesh Kumar, DCP (east) Bengaluru, Purohit filed a complaint after Rs 3 lakh went missing from his house. After searching the house and enquiring with other he filed a complaint. The accused, Mahendra was brought to the police station for enquiry at about 4:30pm on Saturday.
 
"Three hours later Mahendra developed breathlessness and chest pain. He was given some water to drink," he said.
 
However, when that did not help, he was shifted to hospital but was declared brought dead. His body has been taken to Lady Curzon and Bowring hospital.
 
"His family is coming from Odisha to claim the body. He has been married for close to a decade but his wife, who lives in Bengaluru, has not been living with him for seven years," he added.
 
Satheesh said that CID will be probing into Mahendra's death.
