A duty manager of a hotel in Bengaluru was arrested on Monday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman guest inside his room at the hotel.

According to officials at Ashoknagar police station, Manish Kumar Singh (26), a native of Bihar, had taken up a job as a duty manager at a private hotel (Hotel Pride) on Richmond Road in Bengaluru just five days ago.

This was the woman's first visit to Bengaluru. She was in the city for official reasons and had booked a room at the hotel the accused worked at.

According to the police, the woman happened to meet Manish at around 8.30 pm on Sunday, just before his shift at the hotel ended. The two had a brief conversation then and exchanged their contact numbers.

At 10:30 pm, Manish, who lives in a room in the same hotel, called the woman on the phone and asked her to come into his room. When the woman did so, he then allegedly forced himself on her and sexually assaulted her.

"The accused had been given a room in the same hotel after he recently took up the job there. According to the woman, he called her into his room and assaulted her," said a police official at Ashoknagar Police Station.

The horrified survivor informed the control room at around 11:30 pm. Police officials at Ashoknagar police acted swiftly and arrested the accused on Monday morning and produced the accused in court.

"We were informed by the control room late on Sunday night and we acted quickly on the complaint and arrested the accused. He was produced in court on Monday and has been remanded to further custody," the police official added.

According to a report in the Times of India, a medical examination confirmed that the woman had been sexually assaulted.
