A 28-year-old Bengaluru-based computer engineer has reportedly sought action against her father for allegedly sexually abusing her and getting her “treated” for mental illness, reported Bangalore Mirror.

The family hailing from Kolkata has been settled in Bengaluru for over a decade.

Maya (name changed) claimed that her father had often been assaulted for such conducts in public.

According to BM report, Maya’s father, a 55-year-old businessman, started abusing her after she quit her job in 2015.

“He recently came into my room and sexually abused me. I was in shock for some time. Later, four persons came home and forcibly took me to a home that treats people with mental problems,” said Maya.

She told the police in her complaint that she spent a few weeks in the hospital.

Maya reportedly told that police that, when she returned home after the “treatment” she was under medication that kept her drowsy and suspected that abuse continued then too.

The newspaper reported that every time when Maya confronted her father, he would get her admitted to the hospital.

Saraswathi BS, senior counsellor at Vanitha Sahayavani, city police's helpline for women, said Maya was under stress but seemed mentally fit.

“We spoke to her father, but he denies the charges, calling his daughter `mad'. Our experience says Maya is not lying. We will now have to decide on how to proceed with this case,” she said.

“It's true that I admitted her to the hospital but that's because she has a problem. She is mentally ill. I've never misbehaved with her. It's all in her head,” the father told the police.
