Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been summoned by a Bengaluru court in connection with charges of hurting religious sentiments of Hindus. According to report in Kannada Prabha, the 9th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate has directed him to appear before the court on August 10, after the defence challenged the summons issued to him, asking him to appear before it on May 8. A complaint was filed against Dhoni, after he appeared in an advertisement as an avatar of the Hindu God Vishnu as depicted by Jayakumar Hiremath, for misusing the revered deity for advertisement purposes. The advertisement had appeared on the cover page of the April 14, 2014 edition of Business Today magazine. The advertisement showed an image of Dhoni as an avatar of Lord Vishnu. In the image, he is seen bearing in different hands the various brands that he endorses, among which is also a Reebok shoe.
