A Bengaluru-based entrepreneur has been arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for allegedly cheating people out of Rs 100 crore after promising to build flats for them. The incident came to light after CCB officials raided the residence and office of Avinash Prabhu, Managing Director of the Skyline Constructions company, following a complaint filed by a buyer, Christopher Regel, against Avinash and his brother Dhiraj Prabhu.

Avinash and Dhiraj ran the construction company Skyline Constructions company as well as Housing Pvt. Ltd. Avinash is also the MD of the Kalmane Koffee chain of cafes. Following the complaint filed at Hennur Police Station, the case was later reportedly transferred to the CCB. The CCB officials then conducted raids at properties belonging to the two brothers. Through this, they discovered that Avinash held an account in 15 different banks throughout the city.

It was reported that Avinash was arrested at his office located at Bengaluru’s Lavelle Road on Thursday after officials had allegedly been monitoring him for a week. His 15 bank accounts have been frozen since.

According to reports, the police have reportedly recovered two vehicles, a Range Rover and an Audi, from Avinash.

“Avinash and his brother Dhiraj Prabhu collected crores of rupees from people saying they were constructing apartments at Hennur, Horamavu, Yelahanka, and in Mangaluru, but deceived them,” Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar told TOI.

“He used to take customers to the location, show them around and collect a sum in advance. A few days later, he would pretend that construction had begun and would again collect a large chunk of money but finally abandon the buyers. He neither repaid them nor constructed the apartment,” he added.

Avinash has been taken into police custody, while his brother Dhiraj is still absconding. The police are on the lookout for Dhiraj currently.
