A middle-aged woman was found dead in her house by her housemaid on Wednesday morning in Bengaluru.

The 46-year-old woman identified as Kiran Singh was smothered to death in the kitchen according to the police. Her hands and legs were tied with a cloth, reported Bangalore Mirror.

Police said that neither was there any forced entry nor had any valuables gone missing. However, they are not ruling out murder for gain.

"She was lying on the floor in the kitchen which is right next to the main door," said PS Harsha, deputy commissioner of police (north-east).

"There are no external injuries on the body. We visited the spot along with sniffer dogs and forensic science experts. We are waiting for their crime scene analysis report,” he added.

BM reported that Kiran, who was from Delhi, had moved to Bengaluru about 5 years ago. She had move to her own house in Chikkgubbi eight months ago.

She was separated from her husband and had got a divorce recently. Her colleagues in Manasa Trust told the police that Kiran spent a lot of time in the trust and returned home in the evenings.

Three special teams have been formed to investigate the case. They will be questioning people, including relatives, to check if they had any grudge against her.

"We have some clues on the whereabouts of the miscreants and we will catch them in a couple of days," Harsha said.
