The Lambani minor, who was allegedly raped two months ago in Ballari district, has allegedly been assaulted by the brother of the accused who is still at large.

Vidya (17), who was raped on March 2 in Mariammanahalli village, told The News Minute that she and her mother were assaulted by the accused around 12.30 am on Friday morning.

The alleged assault comes a day after The News Minute spoke to the Ekambaresh, the brother of the accused Rohith. Vidya had alleged that Ekambaresh, who is a Congress member in Ballari, was influencing the police, because of which, Rohith had not yet been arrested.

Vidya old said that she and her mother were asleep in a hut next to their tea shop on NH 13 when Shankar, the brother of the accused Rohith, turned up and began to beat them.

“He was drunk and he tore my mother’s night-dress. He took a Sprite bottle from the shop and hit her with it on the forehead. He grabbed her by the hair also. We managed to call the police and they came and took him away,” Vidya said.

She says that the police have been posted near their house since the assault.

Vidya said that Ekambaresh was behind all this. “He is angry that I filed a complaint against his brother. I am scared that they will do something to me and my mother. They are seven brothers and we are just the two of us. There is no man in house,” she says. Her father died when she was a small girl.

Ekambaresh had denied any involvement in the case.

Medical test

In yet another indication of the trauma that rape victims have to undergo, Vidya said that a doctor who examined her to determine her age was abusive.

“He asked me to show my teeth and kept asking me how many people I slept with and where I go. I could not bear it and I came back. I don’t want a medical test,” she said, sounding on the verge of tears.

Vidya had been sent for a medical test as she is 17 years old. She says her date of birth is November 11, 1998.
