The Kogadu unit of the Bajrang Dal helped an inter-faith couple get their marriage certificate, but were quick to point out that they did not actually help them get married.

Kannada daily Prajavani reported on Thursday that BV Shrinivas (24) of Bhairambada village in Kodagu district, and Raziya Sultana (21) of Shira in Tumakuru district were in love. The pair met when Shrinivas worked at a bakery in Shira town. Raziya lived nearby.

Prajavani reported that when Raziya’s parents found out about their relationship, they tried to separate the couple. But some days ago, Shrinivas returned home and convinced his parents and the couple got married.

Nagesh, the district convener of the Bajrang Dal, confirmed that the organization had indeed helped the couple. Asked if they were not opposed to inter-faith marriages, Nagesh quickly said: “No, we did not get them married. They were already married when the case came to us.”

He said that one of their workers told them about the couple, and that they helped them get the marriage registered. “You had to go through a lawyer. They did not have id proof documents, or anything but they had their wedding photos. We only helped them get the marriage registered.”
