The Thalassery principal sessions court in Kerala on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail request of three accused in the case related to attack on former CPI(M) leader COT Naseer.

The court also shifted the hearing of bail request of two arrested accused, to June 18.

Naseer, was a former councillor of Thalassery municipality and former leader of CPI(M). In the recently held Lok Sabha election, Naseer had contested as an independent candidate from Vadakara constituency.

He was attacked on May 18 night by a group of assailants, a few days before the election results were out, near Government Girls Higher Secondary school in Kayyath.

Reports state that the persons who have been arrested so far in the case are supporters of CPI(M) party. Reports also said that the arrested accused in the case gave statement that another CPI(M) member, gave quotation to attack Naseer. TNM tried to contact the investigation officer to verify these reports, but could not get through. Reportedly, this person is also accused in multiple criminal cases.

Naseer has also alleged that AN Shamseer, MLA in Thalassery from CPI(M) was behind this attack on him. Meanwhile, reports also state that there have been contradictions in the statements that Naseer gave to police.

The CCTV footage of assailants attacking Naseer also came out recently. It shows four people chasing Naseer. Among these, one person who came on a motorbike was hitting Naseer multiple times while others stabbed him.

The Congress party had also come out in support of Naseer in the case. The Kannur District Congress Committee President Satheesan Pacheni even sat on a day-long fast showing support to Naseer.

Congress has demanded that the real culprits in the case be brought to light. Congress leader K Muraleedharan, who won from Vadakara constituency in the polls, has also come out openly giving support to Naseer.
